Flying Fox Ventures

The client

You know you’ve got your audience wrong when they peer at you —via Zoom — and exclaim quizzically: ‘Are you wearing lipstick?!’ I hope you didn’t apply that on our account’. Guilty. Fresh from the school run, I was ‘trying to make an effort’ with a quick lash of lippy to lift the tone. Noted.

My clients were Rachael and Kylie, two renowned start-up angel investors who’d finally joined their significant forces and founded a seed stage investment fund, aptly named Flying Fox.

The brief + process

Visual Identity Design

Catching these ladies via video conference was not easy — diaries were packed, and we were all scattered around Australia. Often, they’d jump on our calls having not had time to discuss their thoughts with each other about the creative at hand, which made for interesting (and often entertaining) observations between two women who were not afraid to articulate what they want.

It was a fun brand to create, and with such playfulness in their name, the challenge was marrying this play with a clean look and feel. Three options were presented, including one or two that challenged the ladies with the ‘unexpected’. You never know, these sometimes end up popping up to take the prize, but alas, not this time. Rachael and Kylie were resolute in the clean, silvery tones that they were keen to see.

Here’s a look at the visual identity we created together:
