The client

Adored Spaces is the invention of Melbourne-based sisters Christine Tabone and Michelle Waller. During non-pandemic times, they run a very successful family-run travel agency who have carved a niche in Battlefield Tours, having been taking Australians to Gallipoli and the Western Front for the past 20 years.

Fast forward to 2020, and their business was decimated by international and national border restrictions, rendering Australians unable to travel. With a family connection in printing, they identified a gap in the market for printed wall coverings — a cost effective, simple and fast way to transform spaces, both public and private. Adored Spaces was born, and with it a way to future-proof their business with a separate stream of income that both provided innovative solution for homes and businesses, and played to the sisters’ love of interior design.

The Brief

Brand Strategy, Visual Identity, Collateral & Website Design

The process

Over a two-hour workshop, we spoke at length about their business idea and refined their vision, and the solution they were offering. We explored their brand vision, values and brand aesthetics, and emerged from the workshop with a clear way to articulate the very clever solution in the duo had in development.

The creative

Oh, this was fun! With such a deep appreciation of interior spaces, the look-and-feel needed to be aspirational and refined. They supplied me with some examples that they liked, and I incorporated these in different ways into two of the options. The third option was a little left-field: geometric shapes and a colour palette that incorporated warm, cool and neutral tones. And wouldn’t you know — the third option won! I love it when the client selects the road less traveled and takes me up my wildcard option. It’s always a bit more daring, and in my opinion, has the best chance of cutting through in crowded markets.

The ever-lovely, and talented, Sophie from Sister Scout Studio captured the ladies in one of her studio headshot days, creating some gorgeous branded assets for the ladies to use. We carefully built out the rest of the imagery through a crafty use of high-quality mockups, which we will replace over time as Adored Spaces notches up more work, as well as iconography and, in general, letting the colour palette and typography do the heavy lifting.
